Bhubaneswar, May 23: An Odia couple — Pradip Sahu (45) and Chetana Sahu (43) – from Banki in Cuttack district have earned the distinction of becoming the first Odia couple to have conquered the world’s tallest peak Mt Everest.
They achieved the feat in their third attempt, reports reaching here said adding it is the second in the country to have achieved the distinction.
The earlier two attempts had been abandoned due to avalanches.
However, during the descent, the mountaineer couple had to be rescued by Nepalese rescue teams by helicopter to the base camp as Chetana fell il, the report said.
The couple live in Kolkata as Pradip is employed there.
