General Anil Chauhan Assumes Charge As New CDS

Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan (Retired) paid tributes at the National War Memorial before joining as the 2nd Chief of Defence Staff CDS today.

A former eastern Army commander and director general of military operations (DGMO) was appointed as CDS on Wednesday after almost nine months since the post fell vacant following the death of Gen Bipin Rawat.

He was given Tri-Service Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns. Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, and Air Marshal BR Krishna were present, as were other senior Armed Forces officials.

Lt Gen Chauhan later told the media that he is proud to take on the responsibility of the highest rank in the Indian Armed Forces. He stated that as Chief of Defence Staff, he will strive to meet the expectations of the three armed forces. According to Lt Gen Chauhan, “we will face all challenges and difficulties together.”

Lt Gen Anil Chauhan will also serve as Secretary of Military Affairs. Lt Gen Anil Chauhan had held several command, staff, and instrumental appointments in his nearly 40-year career and had extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and North-East India.
