Govt using police as tool to harass opponents: Cong leader

Bhubaneswar, March 14: Lashing out at the State Government for harassing the Opposition Congress by using the police , Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra said the Government is using the power of police to harass the Congress to weaken them before the upcoming Panchayat election.

Mohapatra has been a major headache for the police and the Government alike, especially on the context of arrest of former Congress MLA of Sanakhemundi, Ramesh Jena.

On the backdrop of arrest of Jena there have been allegations and counter allegations between the ruling BJD and the Opposition Congress. While the Congress has alleged that the Government is using police power to arrest influential leaders who could boost the party in the upcoming Panchayat election and create problems for the ruling BJD.

“Especially those who had been criticised by the High Court and having a dubious background should not say anything about Ramesh Jena.”  The Congress would give a befitting reply to any kind of any injustice, he said.
