On Thursday, voting for the first round of the Gujarat Assembly elections began at eight in the morning. In this phase, there have been 788 candidates competing for 89 seats in 19 districts. The voting will go on until 5:00 p.m. 54 of the 89 seats are in the regions of Saurashtra and Kutch, and the remaining 35 are in South Gujarat.
36 other political parties, including the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), and Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP), have fielded candidates in various seats that will go to the polls in the first phase in addition to the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
AAP, a recent poll entrant, is having candidates in 88 seats.

Education Minister Jitu Vaghani, Finance Minister Kanu Desai, Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel, Minister of State for the Home Harsh Sanghvi, and Former Civil Supplies Minister Jayesh Radadiya are among the bigwigs whose fate would be decided in the EVM in the first round.
Paresh Dhanani, the former head of the opposition, Arjun Modhvadia, the party’s three working presidents (Lalit Kagathra, Ambrish Der, and Rutvik Makwana), and other Congress candidates are running for office.
Out of the 89 seats up for election in the first round, the BJP won 48, the Congress won 40, and one seat was won by an independent candidate in the 2017 election.
