HC reserves verdict on bail petitions of suspended DSP and steno in Rs. 88 lakh fraud case

Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: In connection to Rs 88 lakh fraud that was meant for the computer education of SC/ST students and self-help groups (SHGs), the Orissa High Court on Friday concluded the hearing and reserved its verdict on the bail petitions of suspended Cuttack Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Basanta Pradhan and former HRPC SC & ST Protection Cell, Cuttack Senior Steno Prachet Mishra.

Tripura-cadre IPS officer Joydeep Nayak, Basant Kumar Pradhan, ex-DSP (HRPC), Prachet Kumar Mishra, ex-stenographer of SC/ST protection cell (HRPC), proprietor of Messrs Access Computer, Ashutosh Mishra and his manager and Mamata Rout, who owns a printing unit at Madhupatna in Cuttack were also arrested in this case by the Vigilance.

When Joydeep Nayak was officiating as IG of SC/ST Protection cell of HRPC on deputation, he had allegedly disbursed Rs 88 lakh that were meant for SC/ST students’ computer education, with the help of some sub-ordinate officers.

However, Nayak was out on bail.
