Herd of Elephants stranded in Odisha’s Baitarani River guided off safely into the jungle today

Keonjhar, Sep 6: Today nearly after being trapped for two days, a herd of eight elephants was rescued and left safely in the nearby jungle in Keonjhar district in the wee hours.

The efforts of forest department officials paid off and the huge chunk including a tusker and a calf was guided safely. After the water level in Baitarani River at Erendei village near Patana increased suddenly due to heavy rainfall for last two days, a herd of eight elephants were stranded in the river since Sunday night.

The elephants from Similipal area entered Arendei Island on Sunday night to save a calf which was swept by the river current but they were lost. Food like paddy, bamboo and coconuts had been provided to the animals by the forest officials with the help of the villagers.
