Bhubaneswar, May 9: An initiative has been initiated by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority here to fight out global warming. BDA has taken up the process of ‘translocation of trees’ instead of cutting them for expansion or any development project here. The horticulture wing of the authority has trans-located around 450 trees within the city in the last one year, from Master Canteen and Nehru park in a phased manner to Madhusudan Park, Buddha jayanti park, Kharavel Nagar park and IG Park. The trees had been shifted for the construction work of the railway station. The translocation happened in October 2016 and was completed in December 2016. While the second phase of shifting of remaining trees was carried out between April 27 and May 6. Most of the trans-located trees are alive. The horticulture department kept in mind while this shifting that the live trees are shifted with soil attached to it. The work was carried on during the night to give freshness and regular watering was also given to them by the field staff so that the plants and trees survive in the new environment.
