Bhubaneswar: October 31: In the second round of searches on Tuesday, up to 71 illegal guns were seized from multiple police station areas in the Similipal sanctuary under the Mayurbhanj district. As a result, there were now 227 firearms recovered overall as 156 guns were recovered in the first phase of the search operation.

The firearms were seized in a joint search operation by the forest department and the local police.

The Police action started following the murders of two forest department employees in Similipal a few months prior by poachers.

Earlier Mahuldiha Police had busted an illegal gun manufacturing unit and arrested one person in this connection. One country-made gun, 4 steel barrels, and other articles were seized from the raid.
