IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert For Odisha

Due to the cyclonic circulation of wind over Myanmar and its neighbouring regions, low pressure is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal which can enhance the rainfall activity over Odisha. It is likely to move north-northwestwards after 24 hours.

IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar notified that the fresh low-pressure system is expected to enhance rainfall activities in several parts of Odisha till August 15, 2022. The rainfall intensity is expected to increase from tomorrow.

Day-wise Update:

On the 13th of August, a yellow warning (Be Updated) is issued by the IMD with chances of heavy rainfall expected in isolated districts like Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur, Jhasuguda, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Kheojhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Kendrapada.

Meanwhile, on the 13th of August (Second-half), an Orange warning has been issued which implies very heavy rainfall likely to occur over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi.

With reducing the effect of rain again both Orange and Yellow warnings have been issued for the 14th of August with chances of heavy to light rains over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Deogarh with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) very likely at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, and Nabarangpur.

On the 15th of August, moderate rain with a yellow warning is expected at the districts of Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, and Bargarh.

Fishermen’s Warning:

“Under the influence of strong monsoon flow and anticipated low-pressure area and further intensification, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kph is very likely over north adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during next 24 hours. Squally surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting 65kmph is very likely along and off Odisha coast & north adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal during 13 to 15th August 2022,” said IMD.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of North adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal, off Odisha coast during next 24Hrs and not to venture into sea along & off Odisha coast, north adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal during 13th to 15th August 2022.
