India plans to rescue remaining Indians from Afghanistan

Delhi: August 28: As briefed to he Political Parties, India is committed to full evacuation of Indians from the war-torn country Afghanistan.

Indian authorities are now working on other ways to rescue the remaining Indians from Afghanistan, sources said.

Indians from Afghanistan will be rescued

As further threats of more attacks near the Hamid Karjai International Airport in Kabul, it has become quite risky to take the Indian workers there, the sources said.

Also, as experienced, a batch of over 150 Indians were taken away by the Taliban from the airport to the nearby Alokozai compound where their documents were inspected. So, Government is looking for alternative ways.

The Indian authorities have been mulling over possible safe land passage from Afghanistan to the neighboring countries like Turkmenistan and Tajikistan to take out Indian nationals, the sources added.

MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “I think we have evacuated more than 550 people. There were, I think, in six separate flights, either directly from Kabul, or through Dushanbe. Of these more than 260 were Indian nationals’.

He further added, separately Government of India also facilitated the evacuation of Indian Nationals through other agencies, I mean other countries and partners. So that just give you a sense of what the evacuation efforts have been’.

Bagchi said, ‘Of course, in this evacuation process, we were in touch with various countries, particularly, of course, the United States, which is controlling Kabul airport as you mentioned, in Dushanbe, the government there, plus military flights overflew certain countries, such as Iran. So of course, that kind of coordination also happened, I would say even Uzbekistan, Iran etc. So that would be some of the sense of it, what we have done so far’.
