June 2017 expected month for completion of Gurupriya Bridge; Chief Secretary

Bhubaneswar, Sept 16: On Thursday, while informing about the Gurupriya Bridge after a Unified Command Meeting, Aditya Prasad Padhi, Chief Secretary said the construction work is being carried out in full speed to complete the bridge work by June 2017.

Adding further, he stated that to avoid any Maoists threat, full security arrangements will be deployed at the construction site.

The former Chief Minister JB Patnaik had laid the foundation stone for this bridge in 1982. Started the work in 2014, the bridge will connect directly around 152 villages following which the livelihood options would increase.

The meeting also discussed about topics like, anti-Maoist strategy, Improvement of Military infrastructure, Battalion requirement, Company of the Central para-military forces deployed in the left wing extremism (LWE) areas. Operation issues of the Central forces and State government were also discussed in the meeting.  

To intensify joint combing operation in 19 Maoist prone districts, blueprint has been made. The combing operation will be conducted by the CRPF, BSF and the district Police. Meanwhile, for development of these Maoist prone districts, proper steps would be carried out, informed Padhi.

In the meeting, Home secretary, IG, Development Commissioner, Joint Director, Central Intelligence, Inspector General (IGs) of CRPF and BSF, State director General of Police (DGP), Work Secretary, were present.
