Karnataka Minister's Remark On Pahalgam Terror Attack Create Further Controversy

Bhubaneswar: April 25: The day after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah said he was “not in favour of a war” with Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack, a minister in his government said the terrorists would not have asked their targets’ religion before killing them in cold blood.

In a media interview, Karnataka’s Excise Minister RB Timmapur denied that the killers sought the victims’ religion before shooting them. “Will a shooter question caste or religion? He’ll shoot and leave. Think practically. “He won’t ask and shoot,” he said. The minister said the country is upset over the heinous attack and alleged that a “conspiracy” was being plotted to paint this as a religious issue.  I think they didn’t ask about religion during the terror assault. The Congress minister added that if they did, it would be foolish to politicise the matter like this.

BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan has vehemently condemned the remarks made by the Karnataka Minister, characterising them as “barbaric and wicked”. The reprehensible and malevolent comments made by Karnataka Congress Minister Mr. Thimmapur have affronted the dignity of the bereaved families and insulted the valiant sacrifice of the martyrs who died in the Pakistan-supported Islamic terror attack in Pahalgam. During this period of national grief, the Congress party, which has compromised its integrity for the sake of vote bank politics and religious appeasement, continues to promote its agenda,” stated Mr. Kesavan.

The terror attack has shocked the whole country and prompted calls for strong action against Pakistan, known to back terror acts in India. India has taken multiple steps in the aftermath of the terror attack, suspending the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan and visa services for Pakistani nationals. Pakistan, too, has warned of suspending all bilateral agreements.
