Major breakthrough for Odisha Police; ATM looter arrested


Bhubaneswar: June 25: Immediately acting on a complaint lodged in Khandagiri Police station on Wednesday by Ullash Chandra Mohanty of Barmunda on Rs.20, 000 being withdrawn from his account at Ramamani Petrol Pump SBI ATM by an unknown person, Twin City Comssionerate began investigation and finally captured a history-sheeter, Madhab Acharya, who was supposedly into a series of Bank ATM thefts in six districts of the State.  Investigation stated, Madhab Acharya, a resident of Mahavir Nagar in Salia Sahi was arrested for his supposed involvement in series of crimes. Madhab is from from Tarando in Kendrapada district.

Notably, the accusatory claimed that they had learnt the techniques by watching ATM theft movies on YouTube. Through this illegal source of income from stolen ATMs Madhab Acharya owns two busses, one car and some other assets as well. The police surprisingly have seized two busses registered as OD 02 AQ 0877 and OR 05D 1747, along with one Hyundai car numbered as OD 02 AC 1936 with a cash of Rs.60, 000 and a tin plate as an ATM card. He usually hacks ATMs of old men and women. They are already present inside the ATM behind the customer for observing their finger movements to remember the password. After the customer has inserted the ATM card and entered his password, they cunningly press the cancel button. Post continuous attempts they convince the customer to leave the ATM conditioning that the machine is dysfunctional. Soon after the departure of the customer, they enter the password and withdraw the amount and leave the ATM.

The accused, Madhab Acharya has a criminal ancestral legacy and had earlier been sent to jail in cases related to drugs and mobile theft thus being active in Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Kendrapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal and Puri.
