Khurda, Nov 11: A person identified as Sumit Kumar Tudu from Khurda was caught while trying to exchange fake currency notes at the State Bank of India Khurda Branch today.
According to the information from branch manager of the bank Debprasad Kanhar, Sumit brought Rs 2.5 Lakh worth of currency notes for exchange out of which Rs 47, 000 worth of notes were found to be counterfeit.
On receiving the information, Khurda Town police reached the spot and have arrested Sumit. Investigation is going on into the matter. As per Sumit’s statement, he said that he got the money from his father.
As per the information from Khurda SDPO Harihar Pani, out of the Rs 2.5 lakh worth currency notes, Rs 47,000 were detected to be counterfeit which consisted of fake Rs 1000 notes worth Rs 42,000, and rest were in Rs 500 denomination. As per sections 489A, 489B and 489C of IPC a case will be filed against Sumit today and he will be forwarded to the court.
