Balangir, Odisha starts celebrating Sulia Yatra from today

Balangir, Jan 3: Today onwards, the well-known Sulia Yatra will start here. Like each year, sack of animals will be sacrificed as a part of the celebration at the Khairguda village under Tusura police station here.

On Saturday, the District Adivasi Kalyan Sangh and the Milita Sulia Puja Committee had a meeting where it was decided that the age-old practice of animal sacrifice would be followed in the festival. Last night, the Nisi Puja had been performed. Today the tribal would host a rally amid a huge procession by holding onto their traditional weapons. Also the district administration has made tight security arrangements to avoid any untoward situation during the rally.

The Sulia Jatra festival is always celebrated on the second Tuesday of the Pausha month as per the Hindu calendar by the tribal at the Badkhala near Khairguda village. These tribal here state that the practice of animal sacrifice is taken as a part of purity for the festival and so they vehemently support it.
