Maoists put up posters: Threaten people to Boycott Polls

Jeypore, Jan 16: Boycott Panchayat polls in Odisha, says the banned outfit CPI (Maoist). The Panchayat poll, which is going to be held in the second week of February, is strictly opposed by the CPI (Maoist) in parts of Koraput.

The Maoists have been asking the people not to participate in the polls and are putting up of posters at various places under the Narayanpatna block in the district. Posters displayed at Balipata and Tentulipadar has threatened the people to hold back from the polls.

The development took place a day after five poll officials were released from the Maoist captivity after production before Praja court near Gora Setu in Chitrakonda block in the cut off region of the Malkangiri district. The officials were threated not to participate in the polls, said sources.

This is the second time in a week that the Maoists have put up posters, warning the tribal of the district to hold back from the election.

The rebels have further warned to cut off the thumbs of those casting their votes.
