Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Never Liked Kashmir Being A Part Of India
Kashmir: Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Chairman, All Party Hurriyat Conference and three time MLA from Sopore in Kashmir, Passed away late on Wednesday evening. The 91 year old politician from Kashmir, breathed his last at 10.35 pm in his residence at Hyderpura, Srinagar.
Geelani’s death was shared by PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti on her social media. For security reasons, restrictions have been imposed in the area, while internet connection has also been turned off. According to sources, Geelani may be buried in his own constituency in Sopore. Geelani is survived by two sons and 4 daughters.
The three time MLA from Sopore, born in 1929, Geelani completed his education from Lahore (British India). Geelani was also considered the moderate face of Hurriyat Conference. He was also accused of inciting separatism in Kashmir with the help of Pakistan’s funding. An active separatist leader, Geelani, was also questioned by ED & NIA on terror funding charges. Post to this, his Passport was also cancelled.
Notably, Geelani, never considered Kashmir as a part of India. He had always demanded for its separation.
