Monetary assistance provided to drought-hit farmers of Odisha’s 3 districts

Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: Providing monetary assistance to the drought hit farmers in Bargrah, Bolangir and Khurdha district, the State government has provided Rs 100 per quintal of paddy, through electronic transfer system, benefiting around 3 lakh famers in the State.

As per the scheme, the amount will be transferred to the bank account of the farmer directly who had suffered loss in 2015 kharif season.

In November 2015, financial assistance of Rs 100 per quintal of paddy for farmers in 21 districts had been announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

It may be recalled that in 2015, around 29000 villages of 27 districts in the State were affected by drought due to insufficient rain.

According to the report prepared by the Food and Consumer Welfare Department, around 33% crop were damaged in 28 districts in the State and 3 lakh farmer will get assistance from this scheme for maximum 50 quintal of paddy.
