Odisha aspiration to be India's sports hub crystallises

Bhubaneswar: November 13: In a mega colourful event here at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled the Hockey Men’s World Cup Trophy.

Also, at a special event, ‘Sports in Odisha’ at the Kalinga Stadium, Memorandum of Understandings have been signed with top business groups/industrialists to set up high performance sports centres to groom the budding sportspersons in the State.

While signing the MoUs, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, ‘Signing of MoUs has created long-lasting partnership to produce sportspersons of world standards from the state of Odisha. Here Partnership is more than giving grants and funds, it will focus on extending the outreach of every sport in India’.

As agreed, high performance centre for athletics by Reliance Industries, Football and Swimming by JSW Group; Badminton by Dalmia Bharat Group; Weightlifting by Ahluwalia Group; Shooting by Aditya Birla Group; and Hockey by Tata Group will be set up in the state.

Among others who were present at the event are International Hockey Federation Dr Narendra Batra, former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble, Indian shooter Gagan Narang, former Indian badminton player and renowned coach Pullela Gopichand Dalmia Bharat Group CMD Puneet Dalmia and Chairman JSW Sajjan Jindal.
