Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: Today the chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Justice HL Dattu said the Commission has received nearly 30,000 complaints from Odisha during 2015-16. Inaugurating the three-day camp court of NHRC at Jayadev Bhawan here, Justice Dattu raised several issues of the state. One of the issue being the health and education in Malkangiri, to which he said that the state government has utterly failed to address the issues of Health and Education sectors which are in a shambles in this remote and tribal dominated district, pointing out that there is a gross violation of the Right to Education in the district. Around 72 primary schools in Malkangiri district have no infrastructure of their own.

Speaking on other issues such as migrant labourers, women trafficking and Forest Rights Act (FRA), he said that the state government instead of making necessary arrangements like providing adequate compensation and alternative livelihood have been displacing people on the pretext of industrialization. Specifying on the issue of women trafficking in Sundergarh and starvation deaths in the undivided KBK (Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput) district, NHRC chairman expressed deep concern over them. He said that the Commission has received around 29,956 complaints on police assault on the protesters and media representatives in gross violation of Human Rights Act during 2015-16.

The three-day camp court will be conducted at the State Guest House where the Human Rights violations in Odisha at different times would be thoroughly reviewed. On the first day of the camp court, three benches have been formed. In the first bench, Justice Dattu will have a hearing of 33 cases.
