Bhubaneswar: April 26: Noted Playwright and Dramatist Bijay Mishra is no more. He passed away today at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 83.

Bijay Mishra wrote his first Play ‘Janani’ in the year 1960. Further, he has written Plays like Ashanta Graha, Timira Tirtha, Jajabara, Shaba Bahaka Mane, Parshuram and many others. His Play ‘Tata Niranjana’ has been translated in several Indian languages.

He has also done a lot for the development of Odiya Cinema. He has written Screen-Play & Dialogue for more than 60 Odiya Cinemas. He has written script for Odiya Cinema like Jajabara, Shri Jagannath, Laxmi Puja, Sapana Banika, Jaga Balia, Suna Chadei, Dora, Manini and many more.

Also, he has directed Odiya cinema ‘Rajanigandha’.

Mishra was recipient of many accolades in state and national level. He won both Kendriya Sahitya Akademy Award and Odisha Sahitya Akademy Award. Besides, he received the most prestigious Jayadev Award for his lifetime contribution to Odiya Film Industry.
