Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: Odisha Assembly Speaker Niranjan Pujari on Wednesday adjourned the House sine die much before its scheduled date.

The Winter Session which started on Dec 1 was originally schedule to continue till Dec 26.

The House still had eight more working days left.

The decision has been taken by the Speaker when both Congress and BJP opposition members had been on a boycott mode since Tuesday.

Ruling BJD Legislator Pramilla Mallik, Amar Satpathy, Pravat Tripathy and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh said since the Opposition members were not attending the House since day before yesterday, it would not be fair to continue the proceedings of the House anymore and urged the Speaker to adjourn the House sine die.

Arukh requested Speaker to allow government to move an adjournment motion in the house.

Notably, the current session, the House discussed farmers suicide cases, drought situation and alleged irregularities in distribution of digitised ration cards in the state and passed as many as five bills.
