Odisha capital witnesses Indian Naval Band performance

Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: On Tuesday, as part of Bharat Parv celebrations, the Indian Navy conducted a Naval Band concert of Military Music at the Utkal Mandap here. The event was hosted by the Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command and Odisha Governor, Dr SC Jamir graced the occasion as the Chief guest.

Around 40 skilled musician sailors performed together in the Naval  Band. The program aimed at attracting the music loving public of the city with the professional capabilities of the personnel of the Naval Band. Senior officials of both Central and State government along with Judiciary, Police and other delegates attended the programme.

It was a one-hour performance that exhibited the prowess of the naval musicians as they showcased a wide genre of music which catered to the musical tastes of all present as audience. The performance began with a powerful ‘Fanfare’ which was followed by music of all genres starting from the classical to light classical, Hindi pop and Carnatic fusion as well. It ended with a score entitled as ‘Tri Services Marching Medley’ that had a beautiful blend of the signature marching tunes of the Indian Armed Forces and the popular and evergreen patrotic number, ‘Saare Jahan se Accha’ that gave a perfect finale to the performance. This mixture also proved that versatility is indeed the hallmark of the Indian Naval Band.

Under the baton of their present Band Director, Commander, Satish K Champion, the ensemble relates closely to the mass audience of our country with their wide ranging repertoire making every effort to incorporate the different forms and texture of music of the area of performance
