Odisha has been recognized as the “Best State For Scaling Up Millet Mission” by the Central Government, and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has extended his congratulations to the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment.
Odisha was recognized by the Government of India’s Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare with this honor for its improved agronomic practices and its efforts to promote millets in collaboration with SHGs.
Millets are a type of small-seeded cereal that is both nutritious and resistant to climate change. There are currently 19 districts in Odisha where Odisha Millet Mission is active.
Recently, the Government of India has also asked states to adopt the Odisha model for the promotion of millets.
