Bhubaneswar: May 3: Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm FANI made its landfall near Puri of Odisha with a wind speed touching nearly 200 Kmph today, which has claimed six lives across the State within hours of its landfall on Friday.
Already damages have been reported from different parts of the State. It has blown away many thatched houses and uprooted thousands of trees & Electricity Poles.
Capital City Bhubaneswar also got severely affected due the strong wind speed and heavy rainfall. Hundreds of tress uprooted and have blocked the communication. Power supply and water supply got disrupted in the capital city due to the damage of electricity poles and wires. The road network in several districts suffered extensive damage.
The Cyclone has completely thrown normal life out of gear with strong wind speed and heavy to heavy rainfall.
Notably, Odisha Government has evacuated 11 lakh persons from vulnerable areas to safer places before the cyclone. Ganjam and Puri districts have evacuated more than 3 lakh and 1.3 lakh people respectively.
