Odisha Governor SC Jamir exhorts students to explore the unknown

Odisha Governor SC Jamir said on Thursday that the essence of Utkal University is learning and the essence of its outlook is creating enlightened minds.

This must be the hallmarks of Utkal University, said Jamir who is also the Chancellor of the university, addressing its 73rd Foundation Day.

“Knowledge is power and it is more so today than ever before. Therefore, as educated citizens students have a special obligation to the pursuit of learning, to promote exploration of the unknown, to preserve the freedom of inquiry, to support the advancement of research, and to assist at every level the improvement of education”, he said.

Jamir outlined state-of-art knowledge delivery system, faculty development, fostering excellence in research and innovation, infrastructure development, campus discipline and engagement with the societal needs as priority sectors before the university.

He asked the students to be a participant and not a spectator in the process of change.

The Governor exhorted the students to realise their special responsibility and obligation to uphold the rule of law and cited obligation to the pursuit of learning, to serve the people and society and to uphold the rule of law as outstanding.
