Bhubaneswar, May 5: Today the Odisha government announced a hike in the state pension of Odisha’s freedom fighters from existing Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000. Others along with the activists of Goa Liberation Movement will get a monthly pension of Rs 9,000 that was earlier Rs 5,000. Also there has been an increase in the state’s token share in the pension scheme from Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000. However, political pundits depict this move to be a mere political step as the state announced this after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated the kin of 16 freedom fighters who fought in 1817 Paika rebellion in Odisha, Modi had then said that the sacrifices made by the ancestors will not go in vain and the country would celebrate it during the 75th year of Independence in 2022.
