Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: Odisha govt plans to open at least one fire station in each block of the State.

State’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said here on Monday that his government will set up 335 more fire stations across the state soon.

Speaking at a seminar here on fire safety measures in high-rise buildings, Patnaik said this will be the highest among all States in the country.

His government is  also making efforts to make fire service more accessible to the rural areas and reduce the response time in case of any mishap, Patnaik said.

There are already 232 fire stations in the state and steps are being taken to create 53 more in a year’s time, the Chief Minister said.

State government has recently recruited over 1000 firemen drivers with a view to strengthen the fire stations and setting up three training institutes at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri areas to facilitate training and professional responsiveness in fire prevention and fire fighting and rescue and rehabilitation.
