Odisha Police Arrests 500 Loot Cases Accused
Commissionerate Police’s Special Squad arrested a veteran burglar Hemanta Das on Monday who is involved in around 500 loot cases across the country. Police nabbed him while he was trying to commit another loot in Cuttack city, Police said. He has been doing burglary cases since last 30 years.
During interrogation, 59-year-old Hemanta accepted that he has been committing burglary with the help of crowbar in different parts of the State as well as outside the State, the DCP said.
More than 100 loot cases have been registered against him in the Bhubaneswar UPD only.
Hemant uses to live like a king. He spends nights in 5-star hotels and also throws money on call girls, Police information said.
He claims to have earned over Rs 4 to 5 crore from the burglaries in the last 35 years, but he has saved nothing.
Umashankar Dash, DCP, Bhubaneswar said, Hemant was studying in the BJB college at Bhubaneswar when he was first arrested in connection with a clash in the 1980s’.
During his stay in Jail, he came in contact with a burglar and learnt the art of burglary from him. From, 1986 onwards, he became a professional burglar.
Hemanta has done burglary across Odisha and also in other parts of the country.
Earlier, he was arrested for the last time by the special squad in Bhubaneswar in 2018.
