Bhubaneswar, Dec 8: In writing to the Khurda district administration the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has asked to seal 175 illegal stone crusher units, operating without permission.
These 175 units have not been granted any site permission, and those units do not qualify for any criteria in setting up a Crusher unit. Because the 175 crusher sites are located within 200 meter distance from highways and 500 meters from habitation. For the reason the dust absorbed in the atmosphere in nearby habitation was found nearly 1000 micro gram per meter cube, while the legal acceptable limit is 600 micro grams per meter cube.
A suitable date will be fixed by the district administration for the closure of the unit and it will be fixed in phrases. The district administration officials, pollution board and a designated magistrate will do the sealing exercise together, said sources.
There are about 430-crusher unit operating currently in the district out of which 175 will be shut down. Out of these 175 are some unit which were earlier locked down by the Board but they are functioning secretly by removing the lock.
