Parala Palace: SIT team returns to its headquarters after first phase investigation

Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Crime branch returned to its headquarters on Sunday from Paralakhemundi, after completing the first phase of its investigation into the mysterious deaths of Ananga Manjari Patra, the palace manager of Parala royal Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deb, and three of her siblings. As per sources, the SIT team met the CDMO of Gajapati district on Sunday before its return to the headquarters and asked about the health condition of the Maharaja.

Also, a poster issued in the name of the sister-in-law of the Maharaja that was placed in front of the Parala palace was seized by the team.

The SIT team on Saturday had visited the Parlakhemundi tehsil and sub-registrar office to enquire about the king’s land related transactions. While scanning the properties related documents, the team came to know that the king had sold a vast stretch of a mango orchard in April 2012 and had sold another piece of land in December, 2015. The current market price of the above properties is estimated to be around Rs 3 lakh.

As per CB sources, the team will head to Berhampur, Paralakhemundi and Chennai during its second phase of investigation. Kalyani Gajapati Deb, daughter of the Parala Maharaja is also expected to be questioned by the team.
