Puri: July 13: Lakhs of devotees thronged to the pilgrim city Puri on Saturday to witness the ‘Suna Besha’ of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.
The devotees witnessed the deities adorned with glittering gold.
Suna Besha is observed on Bahuada Ekadashi during the Rath Yatra. As per the tradition, the deities are adorned with gold jewellery on the day after return car festival.
This unique attire of deities attracts devotees from all around the country and outside.
Suna Besha is observed five times in a year i.e. Bijaya Dashami in the month of October, Kartika Purnima in the month of November, Pusha Purnima in the Month of December, Magha Purnima in the Month of January and Ashadha Ekadashi in the Month of July.
Only, in Ashadha Ekadashi, it is observed on the chariots, in front of the Singhadwara (Lions Gate) and rest four are observed inside the Temple on Ratna Singhasana.
The gold ornaments used to decorate the deities are hasta, payar,Mukuta, Mayura Chandrika, Chulapati, Kundala, Rahurekha,Malas, Chakra, Gada and Shankha
