Bhubaneswar, June 8: In another major raid by the state vigilance, a team of vigilance officials yesterday red handedly arrested Junior engineer Amiya Kumar Panda at Puri for taking a bribe of Rs 7000 from a contractor for preparing a construction work bill.
To be noted, contractor Ranjit Lenka had been sanctioned an amount of Rs 2 lakh under the MLA LAD fund during 2016-17, for the construction of an Akhada at Puri.
On 30th of May 2017, after getting instructions from Panda, Lenka had started the work for the same by spending Rs 25,000 from his pocket. But, later to take measurement and prepare the bill, Panda had demanded Rs 10,000 from Lenka, which the former later bargained to Rs 7,000.
However, Lenka took the matter to the notice of the SP, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division. According to sources, a trap was laid at the JE office, in which Lenka paid the amount to Panda and he was thus caught red handed.
Meanwhile, search operation at Panda’s parental house in Bhubaneswar and Father-in-law’s house at Puri was been conducted.
