Berhampur, April 11: Notwithstanding the criticism that Raahgiri Day was deviating from its desired aim, the campaign today reached the silk city with people from all walks of life joining it in large numbers enthusiastically.
Organized by Berhampur Municipal Corporation, Raahgiri Day changed the meaning of dull sunday mornings for Silk City denizens.
Ganjam district Collector Prem Chandra Chaudhary, DIG Amitabh Thakur and people from different walks life participated in the event.
The stretch near Khallikote college was filled to capacity with people cheering, dancing and working out to different music beats.
The younger ones indulged in various activities including skating, cycling, musical events, folk dances, painting competitions, different types of sports events and yoga was organised as part of the celebration.
“We started with few activities on the first Sunday and more activities will be added,” said Ganjam district Collector Prem Chandra Choudhury.
Rotary Club of Berhampur sponsored the first Raagiri celebration while the Nehru Yuva Kendra provided volunteers for the occasion.
