Rose Valley chit fund scandal: Arrested TMC MP’s daughter appears before CBI, Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 3: Yesterday in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund scam, the arrested TMC MP Tapas Pal’s daughter Sohini Pal arrived here and appeared before the CBI here as per the CBI notice. Tapas had allegedly given posts to his wife, daughter and nephew in the Rose Valley company.

The CBI officials are making all efforts to identify the post in which Sohini was working and the amount transacted during her tenure. Besides, Tapas had to be hospitalized at the Capital hospital because of his mental illness. However, the doctor treating Tapas informed that even if Tapas is supposedly ill, he still can face CBI interrogation. He is not completely normal but he is not so serious. This was said by Dr Prashant Mohapatra of Capital Hospital.

On the other hand, Bollywood singer and Union Minister, Babul Supriyo tweeted that he would be filing a defamation suit against Tapas after the latter dragged the former’s name into the chit fund scam.

Tapas was one of the directors of this fraudulent chit fund company that allegedly has duped investors in Odisha, West Bengal and some other states. Tapas is also held on charges of promoting the company and misleading innocents to deposit money in the company. The CBI submitted its chargesheet in the court on Jan 7, 2016 where it had accused the fraudulent company for duping investors of Rs 17,000 crore out of which Rs 450 crore is from Odisha alone. The company was active in Odisha and had 28 branches in the state.
