Bhubaneswar, July 4: After missing several deadlines provided by the Supreme Court, Selvam Educational and Charitable Trust, Tamil Nadu based company possessing Sardar Rajas Medical College and Hospital in Kalahandi district had finally deposited Rs 2 crore on Monday as per the SC direction. Formerly, the court had warned the trust on May 9 to deposit Rs 2 crore by June 25 failing which a non- bailable warrant against the Trust’s management would be issued.

Notably, the medical college was established in both public and private mode and the college admitted students only for two academic years 2013-14 and 2014-15. For its establishment the State Government had given Rs 10 crore and 255 acres of land to the trust after a MOU was signed with the Western Odisha Development Council in 2004.

But after that Medical Council of India had withdrawn its nod on the basis of poor infrastructural facilities of the college and less number of faculty member, 124 students of two batches were been shifted to three colleges in Bhubaneswar, Hi-Tech medical College, Institute of Medical Science and Kalinga Institute of Medical Science. Following which the apex court ordered the trust to deposit Rs 2crore before SC Registry on April 19 to compensate the students for pushing them into uncertainty.
