Bhubaneswar, April 5: The cause of Jaundice is the drainage of contaminated water from the lavatories in Cuttack informed, Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department Secretary G Mathi Vathanan on Monday.
After a discussion with senior district and department officials, the Secretary informed that the contaminated water of the lavatories is mixing with the ground water, as a result the water in the ground water reservoirs are contaminated and people in the area are gradually affected by the disease.
Earlier in the day, the Secretary reviewed the change of damaged drinking water pipelines and directed the concerned authorities to complete the process within the stipulated time frame. Sources said the Secretary directed the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to de-silt all the drains of the city at the earliest.
Around 53 jaundice patients have so far detected in Cuttack district putting the Government in a fix.
