Bhubaneswar: Even as Devendra Fadnavis emerged the BJP’s choice for the post of Chief Minister in Maharastra, former Chief Minister and leader of Shiv Sena Eknath Shinde has assured support to the saffron party’s choice for the post.
Shinde on Sunday rules out differences among MahaYuti allies over the government formation.
MahaYuti leaders are meeting today to discuss and decide on CM’s name at a meeting in Mumbai.
Notably, Fadnavis is the front-runner for the top post. However, the party is yet to announce it’s newly elected MLAs’ meeting where the BJP legislative party leader will be elected.
The new Maharashtra Chief Minister is scheduled to take oath on December 5 in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The melting down of a sulking Shinde occurred amid reports that several Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar) were in touch with the BJP to switch allegiance.
The BJP with 133 MLAs is so far in a very comfortable position to form a government with unconditional support of NCP (Ajit Pawar) group which has 41 MLAs.
Any alliance or party requires 145 seats to form a government in Maharashtra.
Speculations about fissures among the Mahayuti partners on choice of Chief Minister created murmur following departure of Shinde to his native village after a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and not attending a scheduled meeting among Mahayuti leaders in Mumbai.
