Bhubaneswar, Feb. 15: The Voice of SOA Community, SOA University’s 90.4 community radio, joined other functional radios of Odisha in a series of programs organized to mark the 2-day International Radio Day celebrations in the city on Monday and Tuesday.
A novel ‘Radio on Wheels’— a truck modeled as an old-fashioned radio went around the city as part of the celebrations while views of the people were taken on different issues which were broadcast live from SOA 90.4 community radio station.
The ‘Radio on Wheels’ campaign was flagged off by Mr. Kamal Kant Sharma, Inspector General of Police, CRPF, from the CRPF campus on Monday morning which went to a slum in Satya Nagar, stopped at the Odisha Association of the Blind and culminated at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) where a program was organized for scientists, agricultural students and farming communities.
The inaugural program also included the launching of ‘Asantu Jodiba Sara Odisha’ (Let us connect Odisha), the first episode of which was broadcast from SOA 90.4 community radio station. It was sponsored by Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (Indian Council for Agricultural Research).
On Tuesday, a national workshop on ‘Empowering the Community through Community Radio’ was jointly organized by the Community Radio Association of Odisha (CRAO) and the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) in CIFA campus. Attended by experts, broadcasters, media personnel and officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the state government’s Information and Public Relations department, it was inaugurated by Mr. Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary to the government in the Cooperation, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment department.
