Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, Jan 7: The Union Government has sanctioned Rs 57.14 crore to carry out development work and augmenting facilities to fight the Maoist menance.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday approved the State wise allocation of Additional Central Assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for 35 worst Naxal-affected districts spread across seven states, including Odisha.
The affected areas include two district in Odisha, 16 districts in Jharkhand, eight in Chhattisgarh, six in Bihar, and one each in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The Ministry allocated fund at the rate of Rs.28.57 crore per district.
Thus, Jharkhand is allocated Rs 457.12 crore, Chhattisgarh Rs 228.56 crore, Bihar Rs 171.42 crore, Odisha Rs 57.14 crore and Rs 28.57 crore each to Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, an official release in New Delhi said.
The amount is likely to be used in carrying out development work and augmenting facilities to fight Naxalism, a senior Home Ministry official said.
The Centre also approved grant of Rs 815 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund as assistance for tackling the situation arising out of drought in the State.
A High level meeting, chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, approved about Rs 2,550 crore to drought-affected states of Odisha Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
The Committee examined the proposals based on the report of the central team which visited the affected states by severe drought.
The HLC approved the assistance of Rs 2,553.29 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF). Andhra Pradesh to get Rs 433.77 crore, Rs 815 crore for Odisha and Rs 1304.52 crore for Uttar Pradesh, an official said.
“The HLC has deferred the decision in case of Telangana to the next week,” it said.
