Paradip: Normal operation in Paradip Port resumed on Tuesday morning after an agreement was reached among all stake holders to end the impasse that had gripped the Port since over a week.
Paradip Port Trust Authorities had warned the Stevedores Association to revoke their licenses if they failed to resume operation.
The agreement was reached between the Port authorities and the Stevedores Associaltion at a meeting in the presence of Jagatsinghpur Collector Bijay Ketan Upadhyay.
According to the District Magistrate many constructive suggestions were put forward during the meeting. Both the Association and Port Authorities were initially rigid but were persuaded to relent.
The officials of the All India Stevedores’ Frderation, who were present at the meeting, also persuaded the Paradip Stevedores’ Association to call off strike while continuing negotiations for resolving other contentious issues.
The PPT agreed to withdraw the letter issued to the Association.
PPT Chairman T Krishna Babu had warned the Stevedores’ Association to revoke their licenses if they did not abide by the PPT guidelines and threatened to float open tenders seeking fresh applications for stevedoring at the port.
The President of Paradip Stevedores’ Association Mahimananda Mishra said that its affiliated associations have decided to resume operation in the Port.
State’s Minister for Transport and Commerce Ramesh Majhi had sought immediate intervention of the Union Ministry of Shipping to end the impasse and Chief Secretary GC Pati reviewed the situation at Paradip.
