Students’ Congress activists out on rally against Kandhamal incident; 50 arrested

Bhubaneswar, July 19: A scuffle with the police, while protesting against the killing of five innocent tribal in Kandhamal, led to an arrest of 50 students’ congress activists on Monday.

Demanding the suspension and arrest of Southern Range IG, Amitabh Thakur, in link with five tribal’s death in Kandhamal on July 8, hundreds of students started a bike rally from Congress Bhawan at Master Canteen Chhak in the morning. At Sishu Bhawan, 50 activists including Itish Pradhan, the President of Student Congress, were detained by the police when they were trying to break the cordon of the CM out there and have also shouted out anti-government slogans, as informed by the DCP, Satyabrata Bhoi. The situation has been taken under control and the police are keeping a close watch to avoid any unwanted incident, he further informed.

The student activists informed the media that the Odisha government is trying to hush up the case by paying compensation to the deceased families but the agitation by the students’ congress would be continuing till the arrest of IG, Pradhan is not conducted.
