Tribal Girl beaten up on charges of allegedly stealing mobile phone in Bolangir, Odisha

Balangir, Mar 9: The day celebrated as International Women’s Day witnessed a counter strike on itself here. A tribal girl filed a FIR of being thrashed and her hair cut off over alleged mobile theft at Paradhiapali village under Sadar Block. Based on the complaint, on Mar 6, she had gone for a tailoring class at a neighbour’s house in her village. But there she was being held responsible for stealing a mobile phone following which she had been brutally thrashed. The family even chopped off her hair and made her walk on the streets of the village with a garland of slippers round her neck. Finding her parents not at home on that day, she reached the PS yesterday with her chopped off hair in her hand and lodged her complaint. The neighbour as per the girl was said to be the zamindar of the village. The Balangir SDPO Saroj Kumar Mohapatra said that investigation into the incident has already begun. Zilla Adivasi Sangh has threatened to start an agitation if action against the accused is not taken within six hours.
