Bhubaneswar: May 09: Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd’s Board has approved setting up of a Kendriya Vidyalaya each in Sundergarh District (BasundharArea) and Talcher Coalfields of Angul District (Jagannath & Subhadra areas).

Based on the request of Sundergarh MP Jual Oram, Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari and Dhenkanal MP Mahesh Sahoo, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had written to the Coal & Mine Minister Pralhad Joshi requesting him to direct MCL authorities to initiate appropriate measures for establishment of Schools in Sundergarh, Angul and Jharsguguda district.

In his letter to Union Coal Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, ‘As you would be aware, districts like Sundergarh, Jharsuguda & Angul along with adjoining districts in Odisha have a Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) at Primary level which is well below the National Average. Increasing the GER at Primary Level, is one of the prime agenda of Prime Minister’s vision for a New India enshrined in the National Education Policy 2020’.

He further stated in the letter, ‘MCL’s extensive presence in the mining and Industrial belt of Odisha, being a ‘Maharatna’ PSU, is admired & cherished by the people of the State. It would be most apt of MCL to extend its Management Prowess in undertaking welfare activities for people in operational areas. I understand that there is a existing provision for establishment of KVs funded by CPSEs like MCL.’

Further, in his letter to Pradhan, the Union Coal Minister said “I am happy to inform you that MCL Board has approved setting up of a Kendriya Vidyalaya each in Sundergarh district (Basundhara area) and Talcher Coalfields of Angul district (Jagannath and Subhadra areas).”
