New Delhi: A non bailable warrant (NBW) will be issued against the Selvam Education Trust if it fails to deposit Rs.2 crore in the court’s registry by June 25, the single-judge bench of Justice Deepak Mishra said in its judgment in connection with the Sardar Rajas Medical College case. The apex court had asked the Trust on April 19, 2016 to deposit Rs 2 crore as it had failed to establish a functional medical college at Jaring, Kalahandi. Instead of depositing the amount, the Trust had filed an application for modification of the order, which was rejected by the apex court.
It is to be noted here, the trust had entered into an agreement with the Western Odisha Development Council in 2014 to set up the medical college in Kalahandi. Though the trust had established Sardar Rajas Medical College after getting a Rs 20 crore aid and 25 acres of land for free and admitted students, the Medical Council of India (MCI) did not agree to give recognition to the institute on the ground that it lacked the required infrastructure.
