Bhubaneswar, Mar 12: The unseasonal rains in various parts of the state may badly affect the production output of the harvest as crops at various places have been damaged badly.

Vegetables like tomatoes, brinjals, cucumbers, peas, bitter gourd, have suffered severe damage in various areas across the state. Earlier, being a lot hopeful of the bumper harvest, the unseasonal rains has shattered all hopes of the farmers in the districts.

Many farmers who completely depend on the agriculture are badly shattered as the agro produce has been badly damaged by the rains and the farmers have no other source of income, said source.

The damage has now forced the farmers in Nabarangpur to go for a distress sale of products, as there is no availability of any storage facility in the areas. And for the reason, the traders buy the produce in a very cheaper rate. And thus the market demand has also marginally fallen.

In Bhadrak, the paddy farmers are also facing problems of the inordinate delay in the procurement. Though the civil supplies department had targeted to procure paddy from 56000 registered farmers, the process is yet to start.
