Vegetable Prices Skyrocket in Odisha

Berhampur: The price of vegetables, onion and garlic has skyrocketed in Odisha said reports of Tuesday. The silk city of Berhampur and the capital city of Bhubaneswar have been affected by the price rise. The price of garlic has increased from Rs 240 to Rs 360/400 per kg. Similarly, onion prices have increased from Rs. 60 rupees per kilo to Rs. 70 to Rs. 80.

Similarly in Bhubaneswar, almost all household vegetable prices are above Rs. 60. So buying green vegetables for the kitchen has now become a dream. The increase in household prices is like a blow to the Habishiyali also. As many people do not eat nonvegetarian food during the month of Kartika such a price hike has a direct impact on the common man’s pocket.

Plantain (kancha kadali) was found to be sold at Rs. 60 rupees per kilogram. Tomatoes are selling at Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kg. Pointed gourd (potal) is being sold at Rs 80 per kg, ridge gourd (jahni) at Rs 40 to Rs 60 per kg, Ladies finger (bhendi) at Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kg. Eggplants (baigana) and cucumbers are being sold at Rs 60 per kg, while pumpkins are being sold at Rs 40 per kg. As a result, people are forced to buy half a kg instead of one kg.
