Villagers from Odisha tie Rakhi on Tree; True love for Trees

Bhanjanagar: August 22: As usual practice, Sister ties Rakhi/Holy Guard on her brother’s hand and wishes him happy, prosperous and long life.

But, the villagers of Bania Palli, a village under Jagannath Prasad Block celebrated Rakhi Purnima in a different way.

They went to the nearby forest in the early hours of Rakhi Purnima Day and tied Rakhi to the the Sal Trees.

After worshipping the trees with flowers & all, they tied Rakhi on the trees and prayed to protect the human society.

They said, the trees protect us providing oxygen and also, we use leaves, wood, flowers, fruits for our livelihood, medicine and shelter etc.

“It’s impossible to survive without it,” said a villager who tied the knot to the tree.

There are forest protection committees in Baniapalli and they care the most for the protection of forests.

The villagers unitedly did now allow anybody for  hunting wild animals or cutting down trees from the forest.
