Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: Odisha Youth Congress plans a rally in the State capital on February 2 to protest alleged government apathy towards farmers’ suicide and growing unemployment.
The youth congress will submit a five-point charter of demand, President Rajat Choudhury told newsmen here.
Choudhury said that the unemployment has become a major challenge during the BJD regime in the past 16 years in the state.
Though over two lakh unemployed youths get registered in the Employment Exchanges every year, the government has not been able to provide jobs to 2000 youths, he alleged.
He also criticised the State government for a ‘crumbling education system’ and said Several trained graduates teachers have been appointed as the sikhya sahayaks and working like daily labourers due to the faulty system.
He alleged the government of misusing the central funds under ICT scheme through a private firm OKCL and targetted the government on increasing number of farmers’ suicide cases across the state.
Over 150 farmers have ended their lives so far due to government apathy for farmers in drought-hit state.
He said the BJD government has also failed in providing the ration cards to the genuine beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act, which was brought by the UPA government, he said.
