Malkangiri, Nov 9: The members of the Zilla Adivasi Samaj Mahasangh will gherao the Malkangiri district Collector’s office on Wednesday as a token of protest against the deaths of 95 kids due to the vector borne disease Japanese Encephalitis.

As per sources, a memorandum over the issue will be submitted by the members of the tribal organisation which would be addressed to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Accusing the State government for its failure in tackling Japanese Encephalitis, the bandh called by the Mahasangh on Tuesday in Malkangiri affected the normal life in the district as shops and business establishments remained closed and vehicular movement was affected.

The Mahasangh said that it has been around two months that the State government has taken steps to tackle Japanese Encephalitis situation in affected areas, mainly in Malkangiri district. However, no significant change has been seen yet. Besides, the death toll due to the disease is increasing day by day.

The State government is only reviewing the situation instead of taking steps to neutralize the disease, Ghanshyam Madkami, President of Zilla Adivasi Samaj Mahasangh stated.

Compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family members of each child who died due to the disease was demanded by the tribal organisation.
